The Royal Observer Corps - Marianglas Post

Location: On a low mound within a high secure compound beside a public footpath 50 yards East of B5110.
Nat. Grid Ref: SH50148395
Date of last visit: 19th August 2001

The Maianglas ROC site is located very close to the road. There is a small lay-by with enough room to park about 4 cars near the public foot path. Go up the footpath about 50 yard till it opens out, then take a tight left and walk for another 50 yards and you should see the small fenced compound.

You will see the entrance hatch with two padlocks (locked in the open position) and a locking bar. There is also a ventilation shaft and section of pipe. Opening the hatch cover you will find the steal ladder in place, at the bottom of this is small water sump and emptying pump. There is a small area at the bottom of the ladder where the toilet and battery box was housed. The Battery Box was found on a second visit to the site, at the start of the public footpath, next to the main road

Through the door is a room with some of the original furniture still in it. The opening to the ventilation shaft can be seen in the far wall and the BT connection boxes and wiring is also sill in place on the wall. there is also a "Post Practical Assessment" board, which is faded and partially destroyed by damp, but some of the text is still visible

More information of this location can also be found on the ROC Database.
